Altirincham Town Centre - IllustrationRecent developments include a £40 million investment by Park Lane Estates at one of the town’s main shopping centres, the Stamford Quarter facing the Altrincham Interchange and part of pedestrianised George Street. The opening of the 1st phase of the Stamford Quarter saw the first in town ‘Desire’ by Debenhams store with the 2nd phase of the development seeing more new retailers as well as a new state of the art car park with improved access to shops and facilities.

At the other end of George Street, Merepark’s contemporary refurbishment with a high standard design and quality retail frontages continues Altrincham’s stylish shopping experience.

A £10 million development at Denmark Street houses an award winning multi-screen cinema, and adjoining restaurants plus parking for 90 cars.

Altrincham’s Historic Market Quarter has also undergone some major refurbishment work, still retaining its character but enhancing what is on offer, including meeting rooms for hire at the renovated Altrincham Town Hall and office space for small businesses.

Altrincham also has a temporary ice rink that provides community skating, professional coaching and is also home to Elite Ice Hockey League team, Manchester Phoenix.

David McLean Nikal’s stunning £150 million Altair development proposals will combine retail, leisure and residential elements with offices, a 135 bed hotel, two new public squares and 850 parking spaces as well as providing a permanent home to the ice rink, the only one in Greater Manchester. The centrally located scheme is scheduled for completion by 2013.

Proposals are being finalised to develop part of the main frontages on Railway Street which are currently hoarded off at the moment as part of the development site.

And on Stamford New Road, future plans for The Graftons covered Shopping Centre (which also fronts George Street) are being discussed.

The process is well underway to decide on replacement state of the art facilities for Altrincham General Hospital which will be retained within the town centre.

There are also major plans afoot to improve Altrincham’s Interchange for bus, train and tram users.
